New Year's traffic jams appeared on the Vilyuchinsky Pass due to bad jeepers

Shift workers carrying shifts and provisions to the Mutnovskaya GeoPP and the Asachinskoye gold deposit got into a difficult situation on the Vilyuchinsky Pass, where tourists in jeeps got stuck in the snow on a narrow road.

Pre-New Year "traffic jams" began to form on the pass the day before. On the rise and at the highest point of the pass, many cars got stuck, the drivers of which could not cope with driving in far from urban conditions. Because of them, heavy trucks and all-terrain vehicles ended up in a traffic jam.

The passage along the pass is very narrow, it is extremely difficult to pass each other on the road. In order not to get stuck in the snow, cars cannot brake. Even professional drivers who know the pass like the back of their hand cannot always cope with driving in such snow.

Vilyuchinsky Pass is a car pass with an altitude of 825 to 1000 meters in the territory of the South Kamchatka Nature Park. Snow cover is established here at the end of October. This area in Kamchatka is considered the snowiest. In the area of ​​the mountain plateau between Gorely and Mutnovsky volcanoes, in good winters the height of snow drifts can reach 13-14 m. At Vilyuchinsky Pass the height of snow can reach 8-10 meters.

Tourists come here for views of several volcanoes, including Vilyuchinsky, Gorely, Mutnovsky, Avachinsky, Koryaksky, Kozelsky. In winter, the pass becomes a place of pilgrimage for winter sports enthusiasts and snowmobilers.
