Local history podcasts “Acquaintance with the Peninsula”

Kamchatka Regional Scientific Library. S. P. Krasheninnikova begins a cycle of local history podcasts in social networks and on her YouTube channel.

Once a month, Natalya Divnina, an employee of the local history department, will tell the audience about the historical and natural sights of the Kamchatka Territory and their history.

The pilot issue of the project is dedicated to the monument to the founder of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, navigator Vitus Bering. This is the oldest memorial structure in the Far East. In 1821, the head of Kamchatka PI Rikord, officers of the sloops “Otkrytie” and “Blagonamerenny”, officers and officials of the port decided to sign up for the construction of a monument to Vitus Bering in Petropavlovsk. The monument was commissioned and produced between 1823 and 1826. Petersburg, delivered to Petropavlovsk and installed, most likely, in 1827. The history of the monument is inextricably linked with the history of the city. The monument was repeatedly moved, until in 1946 it was installed on Sovetskaya Street. The conversation is complemented by photo and video filming, as well as an interesting video sequence that reveals the history of the monument. For decoration, materials were used, kindly provided by the Kamchatka Regional United Museum.

Also, 5 audio clips were selected for the library’s social networks, dedicated to formidable volcanoes, ancient history, mythology and an incredible love story during the first five-year periods.

The materials of the project are based on the cycle of radio broadcasts that aired in 2018-2020. on Radio Russia. Kamchatka “. Valeria Bartkus, a journalist from VGTRK Kamchatka, has conceived a large-scale radio project “Acquaintance with the Peninsula” to tell about the historical and natural sights of the Kamchatka Territory. Valeria applied for support to the local history department of the Kamchatka Regional Scientific Library; her idea was supported by the chief librarian of the department Natalya Divnina. On December 4, 2018, the first broadcast of the project, dedicated to the monument to Vitus Bering, the founder of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, went on the air.

80 stories have already been recorded about the most diverse, most famous and most unusual Kamchatka sights.
