On Saturday, April 21, the most extreme ski race of the region “Mutnovsky Marathon” starts. It will be held within the framework of the regional festival of winter sports.
It is expected that this year about 50 people will start to start. His participation has already been confirmed by a number of famous athletes, winners and prize-winners of the Olympic Games – Evgeny Ustyugov, Alexey Petukhov, Alexey Chernousov.
The main ski race will start at 9:00 from Mutnovskaya GeoPP. Finish athletes will be at the stadium in the village of Thermal. There will also be a festive program for participants and fans of the competition. At 10:00 the grand opening of the sports competition will be held. At 10:15, competitions will begin on cross-country skiing among children, and from 11:00 am a cultural and entertainment program with the participation of creative teams is planned.
The awarding ceremony will take place immediately after the arrival of the top ten winners. The first five sportsmen will receive cash prizes: 1st place – 50 thousand rubles, second place – 40 thousand rubles, III place – 30 thousand rubles, IV place – 10 thousand rubles, V place – 6 thousand rubles, and VI – 4 thousand.
Let’s remind, Mutnovsky marathon is a unique ski race, the route of which passes at an altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level. A feature of the marathon is that skiers run 60 km on an unprepared track, overcoming descents and ascents, plains and passes, having only a map of the route indicating the main landmarks and elevations. Mutnovsky launches have been held in Kamchatka since 2000. The idea of the marathon belongs to athlete Boris Kotikov.
