The simplified entry regime can be used by foreign citizens entering the Russian Federation for medical advice, as well as for the purpose of treatment lasting up to 16 days.
On December 13, 2018, a special circular directive from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was sent to all diplomatic and consular institutions of Russia and abroad, reducing to 3 working days or less the period for issuing single and double business visas for a “treatment” trip and private visas for the purpose of travel “special cases” provided that the foreigner provides a set of documents confirming the need for urgent treatment in Russia. Also, for medical consultations, single-entry tourist visas are issued for the purpose of a “targeted tourism” trip. Thus, the heads of consular posts and visa officers currently have all the necessary powers to prioritize the processing of visa applications for foreigners traveling for treatment in Russia and expedited issuance of visas to them.
Also, in accordance with the order of the President of the Russian Federation dated June 12, 2019 from January 1, 2021, a single electronic single-entry visa will be introduced for short-term (up to 16 days) entry of foreign citizens into the Russian Federation for tourist, business, humanitarian purposes or with a guest visit, which can be used by foreign citizens entering the Russian Federation for medical advice, as well as for the purpose of treatment lasting up to 16 days without the possibility of its extension.
