Kamchatka rescuers save killer whales in shallow waters
Oct 4, 2024
In Kamchatka, operations to rescue killer whales that were trapped in the shallow waters of the estuary near the village of Ustyevo are continuing, the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

Rescuers and volunteers are pouring water on the animals to prevent their skin from drying out. The killer whales are approximately two kilometers from the place where they got stuck the day before. As a reminder, three adults and a baby were trapped. At least 30 people took part in the rescue operation yesterday. There was hope that the killer whales would be able to escape from the estuary with the high tide. In the morning, the animals headed towards the open sea, but they probably did not find the narrow exit and were again captured. Rescuers and volunteers have come to the rescue again. The high tide is expected after nine o'clock in the evening, and everyone hopes that the animals will be able to escape to freedom.
