Vityaz Aero Airlines Banned from Flying in Kamchatka

Vityaz Aero Airlines Banned from Flying in Kamchatka
Oct 15, 2024
On October 15, Rosaviatsiya revoked the Kamchatka airline Vityaz Aero's operator certificates, without which it is impossible to carry out air transportation, the Izvestia publication reports.

A source in the Ministry of Transport told Izvestia that the issue concerns the cancellation of two certificates for commercial air transportation and aviation work, as well as a general aviation operator's certificate. The source explained that the decision to revoke Vityaz Aero's certificates was made based on the results of an inspection of the airline after the tragic Mi-8 helicopter crash in Kamchatka on August 31, in which 22 people died.

The inspectors uncovered cases of untimely periodic training of aviation specialists, illegal flights without undergoing the necessary training, and the release of aircraft with malfunctions that prohibit their operation. According to the Rosaviatsia website, as of early September, the operator's certificate of Vityaz Aero included 20 helicopters: 19 Mi-8 and one Mi-2. The airline carried out subsidized passenger flights between settlements in the Kamchatka Territory, tourist and VIP transportation, as well as aerial work.

Earlier, on October 7, Rosaviatsia suspended the certificate issued to the aircraft maintenance organization, Vityaz-Aero LLC. Rosaviatsia later confirmed the decision to suspend the maintenance certificate.
