On the night of January 18-19, Orthodox believers celebrate the feast of the Epiphany. According to tradition, many will perform ablutions in the fonts.
As reported by the government of the Kamchatka Territory, the locations for them will be determined next week after agreement with the Petropavlovsk and Kamchatka Diocese.
The fonts will be equipped with wooden ramps into the water for safety. Also, tents for changing and warming people will be set up in the bathing areas. Rescuers and ambulance workers will be on duty.
As a reminder, last year 13 official sites for mass diving were opened in the region. Two of them are in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - near the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in the Severo-Vostok microdistrict and near the Holy Trinity Cathedral on Vladivostokskaya Street.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 1,150 people took part in the Epiphany bathing, and 450 Orthodox Christians performed ablutions in the regional center.
