Kamchatka authorities will direct money from tourist tax collection to bio-toilets and garbage bins
Jan 30, 2025
The money that Kamchatka will receive from the introduction of the tourist tax will be used to develop infrastructure. Among the priority purchases are bio-toilets and garbage bins.

A local resident complained to the Governor of Kamchatka Krai Vladimir Solodov about the lack of bio-toilets and garbage bins at the entrance to the Mutnovskaya Highway.

“It is necessary to install toilets and garbage bins at the entrance to the Mutnovskaya Highway. Residents of houses on Nagornaya Street in Paratunka watch from their windows how travelers relieve themselves in the forest opposite, and carry garbage from jeeps and shift buses to the bins at the store,” the woman wrote.

In response to the appeal, Vladimir Solodov said that the arrangement of a sanitary zone for tourists at this location is planned using funds from the tourist tax.

“Since this year, a tourist tax has been introduced in Kamchatka, only visiting tourists will pay it. The tourist tax will be specifically directed towards the development of tourist infrastructure. First of all, the money will go towards financing this particular point in the Termalny settlement in Paratunka,” Vladimir Solodov said.

The government added that a tourist tax for visiting tourists has been introduced in Kamchatka since January 1, 2025. It is 1% of the cost of accommodation, but not less than 100 rubles per day.
