New Kamchatka airport to receive first passengers at end of March
Mar 3, 2025
The new terminal of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport (Elizovo) will receive its first aircraft at the end of March.

The total area of the building of the new passenger terminal for domestic and international flights is more than 50 thousand square meters. It is equipped with five telescopic bridges with the possibility of increasing to eight. The throughput capacity will be 1,145 passengers per hour. Inside the terminal there is a hotel with 120 rooms, souvenir shops, clothing stores, leisure goods, and catering outlets of various formats. Short-term and long-term parking with a total capacity of more than 940 cars will be equipped on the station square.

Let us recall that the previous regional authorities planned to build a new airport back in 2015. At the same time, the project was widely presented. It assumed that the entrance area to the airport would look like a national dwelling or a volcano, and the building itself would be elongated and outwardly similar to a fish. But the final decision to build a new airport was made in 2017. In September of the same year, the CEO of the Airports of Regions Management Company, Evgeny Chudnovsky, announced that it would be built in the shape of a volcanic crater. This holding won the tender for construction. The site for it was determined for the following year. Initially, the developer planned to spend 8 billion rubles and commission the facility by 2021. True, with an area of 35 thousand square meters. Later, the commissioning of the new terminal was postponed to November 2023. In December 2021, Chudnovsky announced that the deadline was being shifted to February 2024. At the same time, the volume of investments in the project was already about 20 billion rubles.

The last postponement of the end of construction was until December last year. However, it was not possible to meet this deadline either.
