Kamchatka Closes Key Winter Roads as Temperatures Rise

April 2, Kamchatka Krai – Due to rising temperatures, authorities have suspended travel on the Anavgay-Palana winter road and the Tigil River ice crossing effective midday April 2, according to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Kamchatka Krai.

Affected Routes

  • Anavgay-Palana Winter Road: Closed between 16 km and 241 km (stretch from Anavgay to Tigil villages).

  • Tigil River Crossing: All vehicle traffic prohibited due to unsafe ice conditions.

Remaining Operational Crossings

Only two ice crossings remain open in Kamchatka:

  1. Skrytaya Bay / Korfa Bay Crossing (Olyutorsky District)

    • Route: Korf ↔ Tilichiki, Max capacity: 20 tons

  2. Penzhina River Crossing (Penzhinsky District)

    • Route: Kamenskoye ↔ Manily, Max capacity: 17 tons

Authorities urge caution, as melting ice continues to impact regional transport links.
