A storm warning has been issued for the mountainous areas of Kamchatka, according to the regional avalanche center. From midnight on March 12 through March 14 inclusive, there is a risk of snow avalanches in the mountain territories of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Vilyuchinsk, the Yelizovsky district (including the Paratunka River basin), as well as the Ust-Bolsheretsky, Sobolevsky, Milkovsky, and Ust-Kamchatsky districts. The slopes of the Vilyuchinsky, Kozelsky, Koryaksky, Avachinsky volcanoes and those of the Klyuchevskaya group are also considered avalanche-prone.
Organizations conducting work in the mountains are strongly advised to implement enhanced safety measures. Tourists, athletes, and hunters are urged to refrain from visiting avalanche-prone slopes in the coming days.
According to the "Volcanoes of Kamchatka" natural parks network, the following nature parks are closed to visitors: Nalychevo, Yuzhno-Kamchatsky, and Vilyuchinsky. "We ask residents and guests of the region to postpone any trips to the mountains for the next few days. The snow-covered slopes are extremely unstable right now, and even the most experienced traveler should not take the risk," the statement reads.
