The two-week event involves 21 members of search and rescue teams from Kamchatka, the North Caucasus, and the Amur region, including experienced instructors. Practical sessions and ascents are taking place near the Klyuchevskaya group of volcanoes — on the slopes of Klyuchevskaya Sopka and Krestovsky Volcano. According to Sergey Markov, head of the Kamchatka search and rescue team, hundreds of tourists visit the peninsula every year, and unfortunately, tragedies are not uncommon: over 50 major incidents involving tourist groups have been recorded in recent years. As a reminder, on April 10, two tourists from St. Petersburg were found dead from hypothermia near the Avacha Pass. Criminal cases have been opened regarding their deaths.
