In honor of Victory Day, rescuers from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) climbed Klyuchevskaya Sopka — the tallest active volcano in Eurasia, standing at approximately 4,800 meters (about 15,750 feet).

According to the ministry, the team navigated snow and ice slopes during the ascent and underwent high-altitude acclimatization. At the summit, they unfurled both the Russian Federation flag and the EMERCOM flag. The climb took place as part of the All-Russian Mountaineering Training Camp, which began on April 15 and is designed to help EMERCOM rescuers sharpen their professional skills. Sergey Markov, head of the Kamchatka Search and Rescue Team, noted that the Klyuchevskoy volcano cluster was deliberately chosen for the drills — the area is a hub for tourist, sport, and mountaineering routes, and frequently experiences incidents where rescue assistance is needed. A total of 21 rescue personnel from EMERCOM units in Kamchatka Krai, the North Caucasus, and the Amur Region are taking part in the camp.
