The city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky has prepared an extensive program of events to mark the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the mayor’s office has announced.
The main celebrations will take place on May 9 at Lenin Square. At 10:00 a.m., a parade of troops and forces from Russia’s northeast will begin. Following the parade, a concert featuring the region’s best creative groups and performers will be held. At the same time, an exhibition of vehicles — winners of the contest “Thank You, Grandpa, for the Victory!” — will open. At 11:00 a.m., a dance flash mob called “Waltz of Peace” will start, alongside the opening of the “Wall of Memory” display.
At noon, the “Immortal Regiment” procession will make its way along Ozernaya Spit Street. The route will proceed from Ozernaya Spit to the monument to V.S. Zavoyko, then to Lenin Square, and finally to the square adjacent to the “City of Military Glory” stele. While the column is assembling from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., “front-line concert brigades” will perform at several locations: near the City of Military Glory stele (across from the monument to Saints Peter and Paul), by the bus shelter opposite the skate park, at the junction of Leningradskaya and Bering streets, and near the Kambala café.
Interactive and children’s play areas, a “May” food court, and festive trade stalls will be set up in the center of the regional capital. As is tradition, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., military personnel will serve army-style kasha (porridge) to anyone who wishes. At 2:00 p.m., a gala concert featuring participants of the 26th patriotic arts festival “Spring of ‘45” will begin on the main stage.
Starting at 7:00 p.m., residents and guests of the regional capital can watch a live broadcast of the Victory Day parade on Moscow’s Red Square. The celebration will continue with a concert program from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The day will conclude with festive fireworks at 10:00 p.m.
