Tourists rushing to Kamchatka’s volcanoes are in for a thrilling ride. The road to the Mutnovskaya geothermal station, blocked since winter, was finally cleared by power engineers only by July 11. For two weeks, heavy machinery battled densely packed snowdrifts reaching up to 10 meters in height that stubbornly refused to melt. As a result, the route has turned into a real extreme-tunnel through towering walls of snow, adding an extra dose of adrenaline to the trip to Gorely and Mutnovsky. The mountain plateau in this area is the snowiest spot in Russia, and the past winter clearly broke the usual records of 13–14 meters.
